When Connection Starts to Feel Distant

Relationships can be one of the most meaningful parts of our lives, and they can also be challenging. You might be feeling disconnected, stuck in recurring conflicts, or unsure how to communicate without things escalating. Whether you're navigating a rough patch or simply want to strengthen your bond, you're not alone. At Riverstone Counselling, I offer a calm, supportive space where couples can explore their patterns, rebuild trust, and learn new ways to connect with care and intention.

I use a blend of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy to support couples in their journey. DBT offers practical tools to improve communication, regulate emotions, and manage conflict more effectively. Narrative Therapy helps each partner explore the stories they bring into the relationship—about love, identity, and past experiences. The combination of practicing practical skills with diving into our core stories has been a powerful combination. Together, these approaches help couples shift unhelpful dynamics, deepen understanding, and co-create a more fulfilling relationship.

What You Might Notice Over Time

A couple walking hand in hand on a beach during sunset, with rocks and waves in the background.

As counselling progresses, many couples begin to feel more heard, more connected, and more capable of navigating challenges together. You might notice less tension, more empathy, and a renewed sense of partnership. You'll learn tools to communicate clearly, repair ruptures, and build emotional safety. Over time, couples often report feeling more aligned, more resilient, and more hopeful about their future together.

Questions about Trauma & PTSD Counselling

  • Crisis points often motivate couples to deal with long standing issues. However, you don’t have to let it get to that point. Counselling can help strengthen communication, deepen connection, and prevent small issues from becoming bigger ones.

  • It’s common for partners to feel differently about starting therapy. We’ll create a space where both voices are heard and respected, and we’ll move at a pace that works for both of you.

  • No. My role is to support both partners equally and help you work together toward shared understanding and solutions.

  • You don’t need to come in with all the answers. I’ll guide the conversation and help you explore what matters most in your relationship.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Relationship struggles can feel isolating—but you don’t have to face them on your own. Whether you're dealing with long-standing issues or recent changes, I’m here to support you with compassion and care. At Riverstone Counselling, I believe healing starts with connection—and I’m ready to walk alongside you both.
