  • Riverstone counselling offers virtual counselling and all sessions are booked through the appointments page. Click HERE, or follow the “appointments” link at the top of the page.

    • We will have a brief conversation (15 minutes) to make sure I’m a good fit and can support you with your needs.

    • We will then book your first appointment and I will send you a link to complete the intake package. Please review the documents and have them completed before your initial intake session.

    • For video counselling: Setup your technology. There are a couple things you will need:

      • I use Carepatron, a secure online platform that complies with privacy legislation and keeps your information private. Setup your profile on www.carepatron.com to access your appointments, profile information, documents, and billing information.

    • For in person sessions (COMING SOON)

    • Make sure you have a private space where you feel comfortable and won’t be interrupted.

    • Some people have found it helpful to set aside 15 minutes or so to de-stress before the counselling session. Counselling is work and it takes energy. You’ve invested in yourself and showing up for yourself in a good way can be of great benefit to the process.

  • Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the counselling relationship. It ensures that the information shared during sessions is kept private and secure. Clients can discuss their thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences without fear of judgement or exposure. At Riverstone Counselling, we are committed to creating a safe and trusting environment where you can feel comfortable sharing.

Counselling is offered virtually through Zoom Healthcare Canada ©, a specific zoom platform that is compliant with the health privacy legislation in BC and Canada. All my case notes are also stored in a secured and encrypted health records system. If you have any concerns about this, please discuss them with me. My priority is that you feel safe and comfortable sharing the private details of your life.

It is also important to understand that there are limitations to confidentiality. These limitations exist to protect you and others in certain circumstances.

    1. Mandatory Reporting: Counsellors are required by law to report any disclosures of child abuse, neglect, or threats of harm to themselves or others. This includes situations where there is a risk of serious injury or death.

    2. Court Orders: If a court issues a subpoena or court order for records or testimony, counsellors must comply. In such cases, confidentiality may be breached as required by law.

    3. Client Consent: Clients have the right to request that specific information be shared with third parties (e.g., other health professionals or family members). This requires informed consent, and clients have control over what is shared.

    4. Consultation and Supervision: Counsellors may discuss cases with clinical supervisors or colleagues for the purpose of professional development and improving client care. In these discussions, client anonymity is maintained, and identifying information is not shared.

    5. Crisis Situations: In cases where a counsellor believes that a client may be in imminent danger to themselves or others, they may take necessary actions to ensure safety, which may involve breaching confidentiality.

    6. Professional Ethics: Counsellors adhere to a code of ethics that guides their practice. This includes a commitment to confidentiality, but also an understanding that certain situations may require disclosure for the well-being of the client or others.

It is essential for you to feel secure in your counselling experience. If you have any questions about confidentiality or its limitations, please feel free to discuss them with your counsellor. Your comfort and understanding are our priority as we work together toward your goals.

  • In British Columbia, the MSP (government provided health plan) does not cover Riverstone Counselling appointments. However, several insurance plans may cover counselling services provided by a registered social worker (RSW), including those with PhD credentials. Here are some examples of types of coverage you might find:

    1. Extended Health Benefits Plans: Many employers offer extended health plans that include coverage for mental health services. Check with your plan to see if they specify coverage for social workers or registered clinical counsellors.

    2. Health Spending Accounts (HSA): Some companies provide HSAs that allow employees to claim a variety of health expenses not covered by standard insurance policies, which can include counselling sessions.

Many plans do cover PhD RSW counselling sessions, including Blue Cross, however, each plan is unique to the employer.

Ensure you communicate with your insurance provider directly to confirm the specifics of your coverage and understand how to claim your counselling sessions effectively.

  • Riverstone counselling does not provide direct billing and it is the responsibility of the client to pay the therapist at the end of each session, to know their coverage, and to submit for reimbursement.

  • At Riverstone Counselling, we understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask for 24 hours' notice. This allows us to accommodate other clients who may be waiting for an appointment.

    Cancellation Charges:

    • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice and no-shows will be charged the full session fee.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Your well-being is important to us, and we look forward to working with you on your journey.
